Over 30 members enjoyed an interesting, chatty and very informative demonstration given by Richard Turner, a local artist. Richard demonstrated his technique of using pastels over watercolour (see above image).  Working on fine sandpaper or a special pastel board ( https://www.jacksonsart.com/ampersand-pastelbord-panels ), he starts with washes of various shades of watercolour then goes over the paint with pastels to enhance, highlight or outline his subject. Richard said he owns thousands of different pastels, some of which he makes himself. This enables him to choose the precise shade and tone that he needs to obtain the beautiful end result.
