At our last meeting, Katrina Atkinson gave us interesting talk about her background before the formation of Art House Art School in Cheddar.

She began her studies at Somerset Art and Technology(1988-1990), with Design and Fashion, it was an excellent foundation in the arts, covering art history as well as pattern cutting and sewing. After graduating, Katrina attended life drawing, ceramics and sculpture courses to further her knowledge. She returned to education and began a part-time Foundation Course at Weston College, after which she spent a year at UWE in Bristol, this time studying Ceramics, Art and Design. To complete her degree Katrina attended Plymouth University (Exeter).

In 2015 Katrina began to teach classes from The Art House and in 2018 graduated in her Teacher Training.

The Art House School facilitates groups and workshops in a variety of disciplines, offerring a wide range of media in a lovely creative environment for both adults and children. Katrina also lectures at Western College, teaching A-Level art students.She is currently completing her Masters, online from Falmouth University. Her subject is “Considering Loss in all its forms”. She showed us the storyline about her brother – through loss, memories and continuing bonds both through people, places and things/objects.

For the last part of the evening, members were given different types of shells and asked to draw – veryquickly! – with their dominant hand then opposite hand and finally with their eyes closed! There was much concentration as you can see in the photos, and much laughter after seeing their results!
