After a last minute change to the programme , and dire weather warnings, it was great to see a good number of intrepid artists at our monthly meeting last night. They gamely agreed to venture into the unknown with a foray into abstract painting. The hope was that by relieving the pressure to make a “realistic” painting they could enjoy just working with colour,line,form,texture,mark making,and all the other abstract qualities that painting or drawing require. Isolating an area of a photograph so that there were no “nameable” objects identifiable, just shapes and colour etc ,was the starting point and allowed for some interesting work. Mandy McAllen led the workshop and was an exciting and supportive teacher!
